Racing to the Finish with the Launch of Corvette Bed

Toddlers and parents who love cars will be delighted by the new Step2 Corvette Bed, which accommodates a toddler mattress and easily converts to hold a twin mattress, extending the life of this product for toddlers age 2 to about age 10.

“The Corvette bed, as well as each complementing piece, is designed with authenticity in mind,” said Jerry McDermott, chief marketing officer of Step2. “Step2 is the first toy maker to create such a realistic looking toddler car bed, and who better to partner with than Corvette, an iconic American brand. Modeled after the renowned Corvette Z06, this red racing bed, MSRP $299, features silver rims and realistic details. The upgraded Corvette Bed with Lights™ model, MSRP $329, also comes equipped with working headlights that turn on with a tap. When a toddler mattress is in place, children will enjoy the built-in racetrack in either model.

The entire line design and colors match the Corvette bed and all items are durable and will last through multiple children. The full line is constructed of sturdy polyethylene and is easy to clean. Some of the products require adult assembly.

The Corvette Tool Chest Dresser (MSRP $109.99), Corvette Storage Chest (MSRP $ 64.99), and Corvette Room Organizer complete the bedroom theme.

The new line, which was unveiled in the U.S. at the New York Toy Fair, Feb. 12-15, will be available at retail in August 2012.

So because I live in Ireland I have to pay £389 on the step2.co.uk as opposed to the $299 on the USA thy means when converted to dollars I would pay $609.48 for the same bed from the same company but I’m getting charged an extra $310.48 WOW I could buy another bed on that, not really fair on European customers that would like you products

Karen, thank you for your comment. We can understand your frustration, but we assure you that the Corvette Bed is coming out this summer with an anticipated launch in August. Since this bed is made in our manufacturing plant here in Ohio, it takes time to get all the tools built and ready for production. If you provide us with your email address, we will inform you when this bed is available for purchase and your email address will not be used for any other reason than to notify you of the Corvette Bed release.

Great question. The Corvette® bed’s dimensions are (H.W.D): 97” x 50” x 24” (246.4 x 127 x 61 cm). This is rediculous!! Mid August is NOT Summer. I called Step 2 and the customer service person was completely clueless to any information on this bed. I am looking into other beds too and totally becoming disatisfied with Step 2 on the ability to deliver what it says. If this bed isn’t available by the first week in August, I’m paying more and having a better one shipped from Europe.

Looks like the dresser and toy box are now available for sale. I’m happy to see that the prices are consistent with what was originally communicated. Does this mean the bed will be sooner than expected? Either way, I’m patiently waiting. We’ve been waiting for months and my son will be so excited!

The wait is so worth it! The look on my sons face on x mas morning will be priceless. Step 2 it is a great product and a great price. I am willing to wait and am excited. It is about time a company has come up with a more relaistic car. My son is crazy for all cars and I was wanting a real looking one, and at a good price, and one that will grow will him and last till hes older. He is almost 3 so having a bed last him till around 11 is amazing! I was going to get him a lightning mcqueen bed that was more expensive, but im glad I found this one since he wont outgrow it too fast!

Ivan, yes, our plan is to combo this item once all pieces of the Corvette Suite are available which may take longer than the individual pieces. The benefit of waiting is that, sold together, they will be less expensive. However, because so many are looking forward to this bed, we thought it was only fair to introduce the pieces as they become available.

The Corvette Room Organizer will be able to store toys, books, crafts, coloring books and more. It is themed around the Corvette Bed. It offers two sizes of storage bins for all kinds of storage needs. In addition, all bins detach for easy and portable clean-up, and all surfaces are easy to clean. The Corvette Room Organizer will be available in the fall.

Thank you for your question Deirdre. We do have European distributors who will carry this product and will have it on the market soon. Step2 does not determine pricing of our products for distributors. This decision is at the discretion of the retailer.

It is worth calling out that since this bed is manufactured in the US, there are additional factors (like customs and shipping) that could drive the price up should the individual retailers need to recoup the cost for those steps.

Just wondering why you cant buy this off the Canadian web site? I was just speaking to someone in customer service at step 2 who told me sears carries it, but when i looked it up on the sears website is says that step 2 could not keep up the demand for this product so sears Canada had to stop selling it. its obvious that it is a huge hit in Canada so why not sell it here. My little guy wants Santa to bring this bed to him so bad, can you pleaseee help me out!

It looks like Sears Canada has this item available again. Mini-Circuit (minicircuit.ca) also purchased these.

Sears Canada only has the version without lights, from Step2’s knowledge. If you want the one with lights, you can order the version from Sears Canada and then order a light kit through Customer Service by calling 1-800-347-8372 Monday – Friday, from 8-5 ET to place your order.

Don’t waste your time trying to order this in Canada. I’ve finally given up after over a month of trying. Not sure if the US has the same issue but after waiting two weeks and then getting a call from Sears, they blamed Step 2 for not being able to fulfill your orders.

Unfortunately, the headlights are only battery operated and the bed does not plug into the wall. However, the headlights have a 15 minute auto shut-off feature. I am so glad that you like this bed and I hope this answers your question!
