Trunk or Treat is a newer tradition that changes the way kids trick or treat. Kids are invited to an area where they are able to travel from trunk to trunk in a contained and safe environment. These type of events are usually sponsored by a local business, a church or a community who use a parking lot as a ‘neighborhood’. Volunteers supply candy and typically decorate their trunk to go along with a predetermined theme.
This year, Step2 participated in our local Trunk or Treat in Streetsboro, Ohio. The Streetsboro Parks and Rec Department put on a nice event and even awarded volunteers for the best trunks that fit into the themes of best cartoon, best movie representation, and most scary.
Despite the weather not cooperating with us, we still had almost 500 kids that braved the rain and cold for some candy! A great fun was had by all and we were very impressed with the wide range and creativity of the costumes. Living in Ohio often poses challenges when it comes to Halloween costumes. Due to the unpredictable weather in Ohio, parents typically search for a costume that can be easily layered at a moment’s notice.
Some of our most favorite costumes were:
- Sully from Monsters, Inc.
- The Star Wars Crew: Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, and Storm Troopers
- Indiana Jones
- The Cat Lady
- The Frozen Gang: Anna, Elsa, and Olaf
- A cat lady
- The fast food giants: Wendy, Burger King, the cow from Chick-fil-A and a Chipotle Burrito
- Care Bears
- Dory and Nemo
- The cast of The Wizard of Oz
- Princesses: Ariel, Cinderella, Belle and Tiana
