I’ve been working here at Step2 for more than 6 years. Unfortunately, I just missed having the chance to work with the founder of Step2 Thomas G. Murdough Jr., but I hear he was a great leader and truly treated his employees as family.
Most recently, Chris Quinn joined Step2 as President and CEO early last year. He moved his family back to Ohio from Boston, where he was Executive Vice President of North American Sales at New Balance.
I’d say he’s bringing that family feel back to Step2.
I’m proud to work at this company. Not because it was featured on TV this week, but because it’s exciting to come to work each day and see my family, my work family. While a bit disheartening to calculate this, I spend more hours with my coworkers than I do with my children. But what makes up for it is walking into work each day seeing people that make me laugh louder, work harder, and smile bigger.
Since Chris has joined Step2, he’s made it clear that we are all family. Harmonious, since our mission as a toy company is to bring family together.
Bring family together.
Our toys bring family together as do the employees and leadership team at Step2. Our toys allow children to learn, explore, and pretend with mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, siblings, friends, or aunts and uncles. Our employees bring family together by creating a welcoming work environment, sharing company lunches, and offering family activities after hours, like the watch party on Monday night, where the Step2 family came together with Chris’ family to celebrate his role not as CEO, but as Caila’s dad.
“It’s impossible [to separate work from family] because you’re the same person whether you’re at work or you’re at home,” Chris said during a speech on Monday night. “The entire Step2 family has made the reintegration back to Ohio, which is where [my wife] Rosanna is originally from, the best reintegration that we have ever had in terms of a move, and we have moved quite a few times.”
It was really special to see another side of the person who leads this company. Personally, I appreciate his willingness to share this part of his life with his family here at Step2. I was honored to be part of this journey with Chris and his family and wish Caila all the best!
